Christian Vision and Values

Our Vision

At Oare, our vision is to be a community shaped by awe and built with purpose.

We seek to foster awe in every child: a sense of wonder in the world, aspiration for what might be possible, and the confidence to explore, question, create and grow. We believe that awe and spirituality are tightly connected – they open our eyes to something beyond ourselves and inspire us to live with curiosity, self acceptance and joy.

Alongside this, we deliberately nurture community. We are not a community simply because we share a school; we are a community by design. We create the conditions in which every person can belong, every voice can matter, and everyone can both receive and offer care, encouragement and advocacy.

Our vision is rooted in the example of the early Christian community described in Acts, united and inspired by the Holy Spirit:

For us, Awe and Community belong together. Awe helps us to see the wonder, possibility and value in ourselves, in others, in creation and in God; community calls us to respond by sharing, caring, including and contributing.

We are in a rural context and in our location we provide an essential community gathering space in the absence of other central spaces with safe pedestrian routes.  Our farming community is very rich in knowledge and learning links but can also be isolated and dependent on weather, seasons and climate.

We have cultivated our vision around the active development of community, both in terms of the school being a physical centre of a community but also in the way we think about people and the planet.

Our Core Values

Our core values (Wonder, Equity, Community, Aspiration, Resilience and Empathy) are the vehicle by which we live out our vision.  Some of them are linked to Awe and to the way we strive to be the best we can be and some are linked to the idea of community – to understanding each other, caring for each other even when things are tricky and using our confidence to make sure everyone has what they need to flourish.

Excalibur Academies Trust Values

The core values of Excalibur Academies Trust are:

Ambitious

High expectations and aspirations for everyone; learning from the best and thinking big; an optimistic outlook

Empowering

Believing and investing in our people; developing talent and potential; celebrating diversity and individuality; working collaboratively and celebrating achievement

Ethical

Doing what is right and challenging what is wrong; showing kindness and compassion; promoting wellbeing and sustainability

Excalibur are an ethical trust who are particularly committed to equity and social mobility.  We work in different community hubs across Excalibur and frequently share learning and inspire each other.  Excalibur share our vision of awe in a community of advocacy and belonging – they too are deliberately creating community and living by strong, ethical values which run from top-level posters right down into policy, decisions and conduct.  Excalibur’s focus on creating community while empowering individuality has enabled us both to form links within and outside the trust and to develop a strong Christian distinctiveness.

The governance structure of Excalibur is particularly in keeping with our Christian values because it puts our Academy Committee at the heart of monitoring pupil experience while putting the school improvement team in the monitoring role for quality of education.
