Early Years

Welcome to Skylark Class!

We love exploring our outdoor area and using it to be creative. We have a play-shed full of things we can choose to play with. We make obstacle courses with wooden planks and milk crates; use pulleys to move sand and gravel around and sometimes we use guttering to channel water – or even to race cars. We dress up and act out stories and love to make dens. We have a digging area and a mud kitchen, so we can get quite mucky!

Inside, we love to build huge towers in the block and construction areas, create new small worlds, visit our domestic role play area ‘Cold Blow Cottage’, design and make things in our workshop, paint, draw or read quietly in our book corner and act out stories with our puppets! We love our home-made playdough that we can experiment with and investigate different textures and smells!

Our Science Investigation Area encourages us to look at things in a different way and talk about what we can see and ask questions.

Every morning we dance, sing and practice counting forwards and backwards. We learn a new sound each day with Miss Davies and learn to read and write individual letters and CVC words. Later in the year, we even begin to write words and sentences.

We are very lucky that adults who care for us help us chose a sharing book with a toy to take home each week when we first start school, as well as a book to help us practise the sounds we have learnt in phonics!

We love to explore our local area, either on foot or by taking an exciting trip in our school minibus. The huge climb up Huish Hill helps us to learn to balance and climb, West Woods is always great to visit in May to see the bluebells and Oare Arboretum helps us to understand the changing seasons. We are so lucky that West Stowell Farm shares sheep shearing, cow milking and lots about how they care for our world with us.

Do come and visit us so we can share what we love about our school – but don’t forget your wellies!

Every Day is Open Day

Our school is open every day to welcome prospective parents.

Please contact Mrs Caroline Allsop in the school office to arrange your visit [email protected] or call the school office on 01672 562256. The children and staff look forward to sharing with you what makes our village school so very special.

Thinking of joining Oare CE Primary School?

Free ‘Stay and Play’ sessions will run throughout the academic year for pre-schoolers. This will offer the children who will be joining us next September, the opportunity to familiarise themselves with our learning environment and of course get to the children and staff ahead of starting school. It also enable new families to get to know us and other parents.

Additionally, we welcome all families who are interested in learning more about what we offer.

The Early Years Foundation Stage at Oare C of E Primary School

Our philosophy is to value every child as a unique individual, who enjoys learning and thinking for him or herself whilst developing our school’s We Care values of wonder, empathy, community, aspiration, resilience and equality. Our aim within the Early Years Foundation Stage is to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment, which allows all children to feel secure and valued and therefore ready and eager to learn. We provide a supportive and secure environment in which every child can flourish and learn at their own pace and in their own individual way. Our role is to stimulate and encourage their development and enjoyment of learning through a blend of different continuous and enhanced provision and adult-directed activities.

We believe the relationships which the children develop in the Early Years, with each other and with our staff, are central to their happiness and will lay the best possible foundation for them to become independent lifelong learners.

We are so excited that our children have a forward thinking, well-resourced, spacious indoor and outdoor space designed in partnership with Early Excellence and installed in August 2023.

Our learning environment is supported by an experienced and dedicated group of staff who ensure that all pupils thrive and grow, setting firm foundations for happy and successful learners and who have worked hard to ensure our curriculum plan reflects our newly installed, exciting and ambitious provision.
